The cultural project of lille3000 aims to explore the richness and the complexity of the future world. For its 4th edition, from September 26th to January 17th, 2015, the association presents the RENAISSANCE project, which illustrates the evolution of the vitality of our world from the Renaissance period to the 21st century. In such context, the exhibition DETROIT CITY endows artist Jean-François Rauzier with the opportunity to reinvent two respective spaces.
At Saint Sauveur, a former railway station which has transformed into a space for recreation and exhibitions, Rauzier leads us to discover his “Balade de Détroit”, a monumental and immersive installation of 160m in length. Through this creation, he questions the future of the heritage in this American city. From contrasts to complexes, the memories of a traumatized city are divided between the apocalyptic settings and the sumptuous remains. Strolling along huge business centers and abandoned corners, Rauzier composed his ramble on the beat of these gaps.
At the Maison Folie Hospice d’Havré, Rauzier will showcase his tales of Detroit. The exhibition is a dreamlike narration with fascinating highlights, in which Rauzier, as the master of the scene, brings us towards the dark and unknown zones, in a strange but curiously familiar geography.
